Arthur Lee Powell, Sr

 Mr. Arthur Lee Powell, Sr. of Dothan passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at home. He was 90 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Eddie Littlefield officiating. A private burial will follow at Friendship Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to one’s favorite charity.

He graduated from Rehobeth High School and Troy State University. He taught school at Houston County High School for 20 years. He also owned and operated Arthur Powell Tax Service for more than 60 years before retiring in January, 2018.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Irell Chance Powell, his parents, Lonnie and Julia Powell, a son, Arthur Lee Powell, Jr., brothers Mack, Bud, Fernie, Robert Earl,  sisters Mavis Calhoun and Elizabeth Powell.

Survivors include his sons, Bobby Pope (Debbie), Ronald Powell, Donald Powell, and Bard Powell, grandchildren, Chris Pope, Brandon Pope, and Samantha Sellers, sister, Evelyn Cobb, sister-in-law, Vassie Watkins, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special employee at the tax office, Carrie Cannon.

The family would like to thank T’Wanda Small, Bobby Green, and Brenda Lovis with Home Instead.

Pallbearers will be Rhett Sanders, Lee Messick, Brian Gallagher, Marty Calhoun, Chris Pope, and Brandon Pope.
