Helen Aplin Obituary

Helen Warren Lewis Aplin, 94, of Dothan, AL, has gone to her Heavenly reward. Ms. Aplin passed away at home on December 27, 2019.

Funeral Service will be 11 AM, Monday December 30, 2019 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be at 3 PM, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Westville, Florida.

Ms. Aplin was born to Dewey and Beulah Lewis on November 1, 1925, in Samson, AL. The first of 7 children, she assisted in the care of her younger siblings. She devoted her life to her family. She became the caretaker of her youngest brother who is cognitively disabled when her parents passed. She loved babies, and each generation she was blessed with became just a little bit more spoiled. Her passions included cooking, gardening, and a fierce love for the Lord. She was in church every Sunday that health allowed and was a shining example of God’s unconditional love.

Ms. Aplin is survived by her son, James Aplin and wife Jennifer, Enterprise, AL; son Donald Aplin and wife Carol, Hartford, AL; daughter Sandra Shortt, Dothan, AL; grandchildren Paula Aplin Crouch, Smiley, TX; Marcus Aplin and wife Bridget, Cullman, AL; Briana Aplin, Hartford, AL; Warren Aplin, Hartford, AL; Sammi Shortt, Dothan, AL; Stephen Shortt and wife Allison, Auburn, AL; great grandchildren Taylor Carrington and husband Rudy Acevedo, Smiley, TX; Jordan Carrington, Smiley, TX; Garrett Bruce Daniels, Hartford, AL; Aleia Aplin, Hartford, AL; Evan Aplin, Hartford, AL; great great grandchild Jackson Acevedo, Smiley, TX; brother Benny John Lewis, Milton, FL; sister Mary Jean Wise, Marianna, FL; brother Paul “Brother” Lewis and wife Norma, Cantonment, FL; brother Billy Ray Lewis, Dothan, AL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Dewey Allen Aplin, brother James Lewis, sister Doris Lewis Corbin, and son in law Curtis Shortt.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren Warren Aplin, Evan Aplin, Garrett Bruce Daniels, Marcus Aplin, Rudy Acevedo, and Stephen Shortt.
