Hubert Long

Hubert Long, a resident of Extendicare, Dothan, AL passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the age of 84. Number twelve in a family of thirteen children, he was born May 17, 1935.

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Reverend  Douglas Seale officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Long was born and reared in Webb, Alabama; son of the late Charlie William Long and Ollie Estelle Hinson Long.

He was a 1953 graduate of Houston County High School and attended Wallace Community College to become an Optician. After working in Dublin, GA and Jackson, MS as an optician he returned to work on the family farm. He also worked for many years for Mr. Walt Hamerick Service Stations on the corner of West Main and Montana and then relocated to West Main and Cherokee Street before retiring. He had polio at the young age of five but never let it keep him from working or enjoying life.

He was preceded in death by six sisters, Cora Lee Chambers, Perry B. Newton, Eunice Squires, Nell Eubanks, Lucille Whitaker and Annie Long and six brothers: Dayton Long, Carl Long, Euell Long, Marvin Long, Walter Long and Curtis Long.

Surviving relatives include; one sister-in-law, Hattie Long Wells and husband Bobby; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
