Martha (Miles) Brennan

Martha Miles Brennan, a resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday June 19, 2019, at Wesley Place.  She was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Sanders officiating.  Before services, the family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:00 p.m. until service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Respite Ministry for Alzheimer” of the First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303.

Mrs. Brennan was born September 2, 1927 in London, Ontario, Canada.  She was the daughter of the late Merriam Lee Miles and Maude Ellis Miles. She lived in multiple states due to her father's job with Coca Cola. In her early teens they returned to Mississippi, her mother’s home.  She attended high school in Vicksburg, MS, Judson College in Marion, AL and Sophie Newcomb Women’s College of Tulane in New Orleans.  After her marriage to Jim Brennan they returned to his home of Dothan. Mrs Brennan was an avid bridge player and played in many national tournaments. She also loved to travel and had a home in Highlands, NC where she maintained a lovely garden. 

Mrs. Brennan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Hugh Brennan, and her sister, Merrilee Miles Bryant. She leaves behind a son, James Hugh Brennan III, a daughter, Pat Brennan Haslam (Jim), and a son, Lee Miles Brennan (Julie George).  She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren Kelly Voyles Kardian (Andy), James Hugh Brennan IV, Courtney Clayton Brennan (David Walker), Brennan Miles Voyles, Kathleen Owens Brennan, and Chloe Miles Brennan and 6 great grandchildren.

Serving as honorary pall bearers will be Charlotte Blount, Beverly Howell, Ann Key, Nancy Spann, Dr. Press and Evelyn Thornton, and Juleanne Torrence.
