Vivian Freeman Obituary

Vivian Howard Freeman passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Dothan, Alabama at the age of 98.

A Chapel Service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Ward Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan with visitation from 12:30 to 1:00 before the service. Graveside Committal Service will follow.

Vivian was born on August 9, 1921, one of five children of Columbus and Claudia Howard. She met and married Oscar Freeman in 1952. They enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage together. Vivian was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active member of her church and served in many ways including teaching five year old Sunday School for fifty-five years! Vivian’s home was always warm and welcoming and one of her greatest joys was being surrounded by her family and friends. She loved gardening and working in the yard even into her late 90s.

Vivian was known for her selflessness, her kindness, work ethic, and the amazing (and seemingly effortless) meals she served. She was a devoted and faithful follower of Christ. She was always interested in others and quick with an encouraging word or note. She will be greatly missed.

Vivian’s nieces, Carol Oppert and Donna Howell, have attended to many of her needs in recent years.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her sisters and brother, her daughter Ann West Granberry, her grandson, Jonathan H. Granberry, and her great-grandson Riley Oscar Granberry.

She is survived by her son Howard O. Freeman of Dothan, her grandson Rev. Chris Granberry, his wife, Mary M. Granberry, and her great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Hausler, Elizabeth Granberry, Morgan Granberry, David Granberry, and Constance Yallup of Wapato, Washington; and her granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Granberry; great-grandsons Ethan, Joshua, and Jackson Granberry of Birmingham, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Dothan or your favorite charity.
