Ashley Olivia Wiggins Obituary

Ashley Olivia Hiatt Wiggins passed January 24, 2023, at home surrounded by her husband, Bryan, and her chosen “family” of close friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Taylor Rutland. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Flowers will be accepted or a memorial to Wiregrass Humane Society in honor of Ashley’s canine companion, Felix, would be appreciated. Pallbearers are Mark Schwarz, Lemoyne Smith, Bill Mathis, Ryan Wiggins, and Riley Joe Andrews.

Ashley was born in Connecticut, but moved to Savannah, Georgia where she was spoiled by her Aunt Netta with “joy” perfume. Ashley loved her pet pony, Bobby, and enjoyed riding with her mother and Aunt Netta. Ashley’s family moved to Mobile during her elementary years and graduated from Murphy High School. She then attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she was a Dixie Darling. Ashley graduated from the University of South Alabama, earned a Master’s from Troy University, and received a gifted certification from the University of Alabama. Ashley retired from the Houston County School System, where she worked as the first gifted teacher. Ashley touched many lives with kindness, love, and caring. She instilled a desire to learn, grow, and improve one’s self.

Ashley was an only child, but had a family of chosen friends who will miss her greatly. That family includes her husband, Bryan Wiggins, Ann-Marie and Mark Schwarz, Billie and Lemoyne Smith, Bill Mathis, Tommie Logan, Sha’nah Martin, Ryan and Candy Wiggins; grandchildren, Rachel and Andrew; and sister-in-law, Jane (Roy) Dillard.

Bryan would like to express thanks to the sitters of Comfort Keepers that took great care of Ashley during her extended illness, Amy Walker and Betty Carroll. The services provided by Gentiva Hospice, especially those of Jada Culbreth, Paul, and Amy, made Ashley’s transition as comfortable as possible.
