Audrey Magdalene (Matthews) Thomas

Audrey Magdalene Matthews Thomas, age 98, of Cottonwood, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 at her son’s home in Youngstown, Florida.

Born October 13, 1925 in Alabama to the late William B. Matthews and Melinda Wiggins Matthews, Audrey enjoyed horseback riding and waterskiing in her younger years. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and quilting in her later years, gifting handmade gifts of love to her family and friends. She loved her family and spending as much time with them as she was able.

In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Thomas; her grandchildren, Robert Beswick, Victoria Beswick, and Ronald Thomas; her brothers, J. B. Matthews and David Matthews; and her sisters, Evelyn Dewey, Loise Cockran, and Florette Bracknell.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Thomas and Cecil R. Thomas (Suzanne); her daughters, Donna May and Janice Beswick; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Madrid Baptist Church with Reverend Jason Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at the church.
