Obituary

Don went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2022 surrounded by love at his home. He was 88.

Don was born on January 23,1933 in Ensley, AL; the son of Donald A. Hyde and Verdie M. Hardin. He grew up in the little town of Grover, NC and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War (Communications Division for the Pacific Region). Following his naval assignment, he graduated from Presbyterian College. He began a career with Equifax in 1960 and held various sales and management positions in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan and Illinois. In 1988 he became Regional Vice President of the Chicago-based Midwest Region. His work completed, he happily returned to the south.

His retirement years were spent coaching girls' softball teams and working for Wiregrass Pharmacy. He especially enjoyed getting together with friends at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and serving in various capacities as needed. Don was a committed follower of Jesus. He was humble, kind, strong and smart. He was quick to smile, slow to anger, an encourager, a man of integrity, a devoted husband and father.

He is preceded in death by his former wife Anne, mother-in-law Dorothy Word and his brother-in-law Ben Word. Survivors include Linda, his wife of 35 years, his father-in-law Arthur Word and wife Joanna; 4 daughters - Susan Hubbs of Orlando, FL; Ginger Hendrix and husband Chris of Lexington, SC; Kristy Grissom of Hiram, GA; Robyn Zercher and husband John of Smyrna, GA. Don was also a very special Papa to 10 wonderful grandchildren and 4 great-grands!

Funeral services will be held at 12 P.M. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Dr. Bradley Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
