Dorothy McReynolds Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Catherine McReynolds, 99, devoted wife of Edwards “Mack” McReynolds Sr., went home to be with him and the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Dot was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi, the daughter of Ruby Butler and Benjamin Phil Collier. She and Mack were married in 1945 soon after WWII ended when Mack completed his Army Air Force service. They were married for 65 years before he died in 2011. Dot and Mack moved to Dothan in 1952 and were original members of Evergreen Presbyterian Church where she continued to serve its membership and community throughout her life. She was also a volunteer for Dothan’s Community Chest—now the United Way.

Dot was an avid golfer and made quite a name for herself over her seven-decade-long career as a professional and personal seamstress for many of Dothan’s community members. Her sense of modern fashion, Southern style and grace, as well as her generous heart and no-nonsense spirit remain a blessing to all that knew her. She was an exceptional bridge player her entire adult life—donating all her winnings to the Salvation Army. She also enjoyed cooking, reading and visiting with family at the beach or over a serious game of gin rummy.

She is survived by her brother Joe (Faye) Collier of Oak Harbor, WA; Mack (Dolly) McReynolds of Oviedo, FL; three granddaughters Karan (Gerry) Cushman of Port Clyde, ME; Kim (Michael) Smith of Enterprise; and Kelly McReynolds of Rockville, MD; three great-granddaughters Ashlee Smith, Katie Smith, and Ella Cushman; and one great-grandson Mason Cushman as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six brothers Washington B. Collier, John B. Collier, Dennis P. Collier, Hunter Benjamin Collier, Sam Deen Collier, and James Collier; and sister Frances Abernathy.

A special thank you to Jada Culbreth and Tiffany Clardy, as well as the entire staff at Gentiva Hospice of Dothan, for their compassionate care and support. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to Hayne Hollis and Dot's neighbors, Barbara Fields and Charla Camp, for their unwavering help and kindness during this time. And a warm thank you to Dot's beloved cat, Winston, for providing comfort and companionship.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. James McTyre officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Evergreen Presbyterian Church, Community Service Committee, 1103 North Pontiac Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303-3106, (334)794-7898.
