Elinor S. Brown, 92, a resident of Dothan, passed away at Flowers Hospital on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. She was born December 17,1927 to the late Fred Sammons and Gertrude (Smith) Sammons.
Graveside Services will be at 11 AM, Friday, July 10,2020 at Memory Hill Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. She was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Elinor was loved and revered by everyone that knew her. In her 92 and a half years, she had led a full and adventurous life. As the military wife of her career Army husband, Paul, Elinor was in charge of the household which eventually grew to four children, moving them to bases where they were stationed across the globe – including Germany, Libya, Japan, and several regions of the U.S. Military spouses are the unsung heroes, and she was definitely that. After Paul retired from active duty military and began a new career as high school Army ROTC instructor, Elinor also started a second full-time career, working in the payroll department at Flowers Hospital for many years. Always a wonderful cook, Elinor was especially well known for her expertise in making fudge and divinity candy, which for several years found its way into Christmas gift bags in the Dothan area. Although physical ailments began to limit her mobility the past few years, her mind forever stayed sharp, and for the most part she was able to live independently to the end. She even drove her car, without incident, until the age of 91. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, and they were equally proud of her. We will all miss her dearly - but we sure were lucky to have her for this long.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Brown, and brother, Bill Sammons.
Survivors include her children; Mona Kay (Lawrence) Logan, Jerry Lyndon (Diana) Brown, Phyllis Gail (Randy) Sims, and Steve Edward (Cheryl) Brown, grandchildren; Ryan Logan, Tanner Sims, Kelsey Brown, Nathan Brown, and Rachel Brown and one great-granddaughter, Haley Logan
