George William "Billy" Turner, Jr.

George “Billy” Turner died peacefully at his home in Dothan, Alabama on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the age of 75.

Billy is survived by his mother, Helen Turner of Dothan, AL; daughter, Melody (Wayne) Peacock of Columbia, AL; son, Bill Turner of Dothan, AL; sister, Becky (Dave) Crockett of Perry, GA; granddaughters, Makala Peacock of Marianna, FL; Shelby Turner, and Selah Turner of Dothan, AL; a grandson, Elijah Turner of Dothan, AL; niece, Tracy (Jarrod) Murphy of Perry, GA; nephews, Tony Crockett of Doral, FL and Josh (Joanna) Crockett of Evans, GA; great niece, Anna Murphy of Perry, GA; great nephew, Jase Crockett of Evans, GA.

Billy is preceded in death by his father, George Turner of Dothan, AL.

Billy was born on April 9, 1948 in Atlanta, GA to George and Helen Turner. He was a 1966 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Troy University in Troy, AL where he was a member of Sigma Alpha fraternity. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, held many leadership roles, sang in the choir, and enjoyed playing church league softball. He worked as a draftsman with CIDCO, Inc. and worked with Daniel Construction Company in Alabama, Missouri, and North Carolina. Prior to his retirement, he was an estimator with Dothan Glass Company.

Billy was passionate about his family, hunting, and fishing. In recent years, he was often found enjoying breakfast several days a week at Charlotte’s Restaurant where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Billy.” He loved meeting new people and playing dominos with friends. He was a witty individual who loved his family and friends.

His children remember him as a dedicated son, a loyal friend, and a strong father who demonstrated persistence in spite of difficult situations.

Visitation will be at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. Graveside services will follow visitation at 3:30 P.M. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Bro. Randy Hunt will officiate the service. All family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Billy’s life. Donations can be made to Wiregrass Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
