Gisela Veith Hancock, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, in Abbeville, Alabama, at the age of 88. Born on August 10, 1936, in Germany, Gisela's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a spirit of adventure that touched everyone she met.
Gisela's journey began in Germany, where she was raised by her parents, Adolf and Margaret Veith. She pursued higher education in her homeland, majoring in Business Administration, and went on to manage an office with the same precision and care she applied to every aspect of her life. It was in Germany that Gisela also discovered her talent for ping pong, becoming a champion in Darmstadt and carrying that competitive spirit throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Jessie Hancock, with whom she shared a life full of cherished moments. Her son, Paul Byrne, and a special son-in-law, Tim Davis, also predeceased her. Gisela's legacy continues through her devoted daughter, Denise Davis, and her adored grandchildren, Jesse S. Davis (Deonne) of Dothan, Nicole G. Davis of Opelika, and Brooke D. Davis of Abbeville. Her great-grandchildren, Maddox Davis, Madison Vines, and Mason Vines, will grow up with stories of their great-grandmother's zest for life and her boundless love.
Gisela's infectious laughter and adventurous spirit made her a beloved member of her community. She was a social butterfly, known for her funny and spirited personality, which made her a cherished friend to many. Her special friends from Ft. Rucker, especially Lee, and her companions at the German Kaffe Club, will fondly remember the brightness she brought into their lives. Gisela's warmth extended to her numerous other relatives and friends, who will miss her dearly.
An avid gardener, Gisela found peace and pleasure working in her flower garden, nurturing each plant with the same care she gave to her relationships. Her love for people was evident in her frequent visits to Ft. Rucker for shopping, where she enjoyed the camaraderie and the thrill of finding new treasures.
A Celebration of Gisela’s life will be held at 6 PM, Friday, April 4, 2025 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 6 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
