Greather Peacock LaChance Obituary

Greather “Joy” Peacock LaChance passed away on October 16, 2021 at her home in Newnan, Georgia with her devoted husband, Jay, by her side. A celebration of her life will be held at noon, Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Memory Hill Cemetery.

Gee-Gee (a name affectionately given to her by her sisters and brother) was 58 years young. She was born May 24, 1963 to the late Ray Houston Peacock and Marie Peacock Sheff in Pensacola, Florida.   She moved to Dothan, Alabama in 1991 where she worked in retail management for many years at Payless Shoes, which is where she met Jay 30 years ago.   They later moved to Newnan, Georgia where she became a licensed massage therapist. She was dedicated to providing professional care to her many clients.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Bill Sheff, father-in-law, David Oliver, brother-in-law, Richard Golden and nieces, Tammy Williams and Trisha Lynn.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Jay LaChance; sisters, Barbara Bravo, Priscilla Ramps (Ed), Mona Kelley (Larry), Linda Speigner (Roger), Wanda Livingston (Charles); brother, Ray Peacock (Gina); stepmother, Jewel Peacock Keith; stepsisters, Sharon Ivey and Renee Lowry; mother-in-law, Marie Oliver; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Karen LaChance, Jeff LaChance, Jim and Heather LaChance; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In her free time, she enjoyed creating beautiful paintings.  She did not consider herself an artist – she was her own worst critic and did not want to display her artwork.   Little did she know that her artwork would become the family’s treasures.   She was also an avid dog lover – specifically boxers.  Through the years, she rescued five boxers, Roxy, Emma, Cici, Luci and Blue.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Atlanta Boxer Rescue (atlantaboxerrescue.org).

Joy will be remembered for her big beautiful smile and her witty personality.  She was fun-loving and always had a comeback.  When she was around, there was never a dull moment.  Her greatest love was her husband, Jay.  He was her best friend and she was his.  You seldom saw one without the other. They shared a love for the mountains and would escape to the family cabin as often as they could.  She will be forever in his heart.
