Greg Wheelus

Mr. Greg Wheelus of Ashford passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the age of 69.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, January 22, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Greg grew up in Pansey, AL and graduated from Ashford High School in 1969. He married the love of his life, Susan McCorkle Wheelus in 1972. He worked at McCorkle’s IGA for several years and worked his way to becoming the owner of McCorkle’s IGA for many years. Greg touched so many lives through the IGA and did so much for so many. He was married to Susan for 49 years and was sincerely loved by all and will be remembered for being selfless and the biggest Auburn fan that always loved his family and his dogs. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ellis Washington Wheelus, Jr. and Lura Harrison Wheelus; his brother, John Harrison Luster; and his grandson, Gareth Morgan Wheelus.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Susan McCorkle Wheelus of Ashford; his daughter, Ginny Wheelus Gaberlavage (Paul) of Opelika, AL; his sons, Skip Wheelus (Kellie Armstrong Wheelus) of Ashford and Blake Wheelus (Brittany Tew Wheelus) of Ashford; his grandchildren, Libby, John Thomas, and Emily Gaberlavage, Bryar, Ellis, Wyatt, George and Anna Kayte Wheelus, and Lane and Blakely Claire Wheelus; his nephew, Brandon Luster; and nieces, Kim Luster Fondren and Melissa Luster Fondren.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Meadows, Phil Merritt, Darrell Sumner, Ray Odom, Jr., Frank Longgrear, Danny Enfinger and Titus Prevatt.
