Hugh Donald Weatherly, of Dothan, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on November 19, 1930, to the late Hugh A. Weatherly and Jessie Lipham Weatherly.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. Bradley Rushing officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
Hugh was a graduate of Dothan High School where he met his future bride, Dorothy Mullins. They married in 1950 and remained married until her death in 2011. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, being stationed in Salt Lake City, Utah and San Antonio, Texas. After his service, they settled in Montgomery where he started Weatherly Plumbing Co. and ran for many years. Retiring from the plumbing business they moved back to Dothan where he worked with United Federal and even was a security guard with Hutto Towers. He was an active member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Dothan. Hugh was known by all as a gentleman that loved to tell a story, to lend a helping hand wherever needed and make you smile. He was known as “Big” to his grandchildren and always had them second guessing about his tall tales.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Weatherly; his sister, Gerry McCall of Greensboro, NC and great-granddaughter, Rachel Weatherly.
Hugh is survived by his son, Terry (Jane) Weatherly of Headland, AL; daughter, Donna (Dennis) Pearce of Dothan, AL; five grandchildren, Tony Weatherly of Port Arthur, TX, Elizabeth (David) Woodham of Headland, AL, Diane (Gregory) Calhoun of Colquitt, AG, Lee Pearce and Kent Pearce both of Dothan, AL; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Weatherly of Wewahitchka, FL, Trent Weatherly of Headland, AL, Lori Jane and John David Woodham of Headland, AL, Philip and Annabeth Calhoun of Colquitt, GA; one great-great-grandchild, Tatum Weatherly of Wewahitchka, FL; several nieces, nephews, extended family, a host of friends, and one special friend, Madelene Youngblood.
