James Hillery Woodham (Billy), a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
The graveside funeral service will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery, 2 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2021, directed by Ward- Wilson Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Bob Gross, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dothan, and Taylor Rutland, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dothan. The family requests that masks be worn.
Mr. Woodham was born and raised in Texasville, Alabama. He started his early educational career as elementary principal in Brantley, Alabama. Later, he moved to Daleville, where he served as high school principal for approximately five years. After moving to Dothan in 1974, he was principal at Girard Elementary School for two years. From Girard he transitioned to Dothan High School where he was principal for twenty years. After his retirement from Dothan High School, he worked with the Alabama State Department of Education as Administrative and Curriculum Advisor.
Mr. Woodham was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maude Woodham, and by a sister, Jimmie Sue Farmer. Surviving relatives include Patricia Woodham, his wife of 55 years; a daughter, Patti Flowers (Thomas), Dothan; a son, Michael Woodham (Donna), Eufaula; a daughter, Beverly Brown (Parker), Eufaula; nine grandchildren, Hillery Brooks (Andrew), Brittney Brown (Micah), John Flowers (Breanah), Mikey Woodham, Clayton Woodham, Heather Knight (Josh), Brooke Harrell (Brian), Faith Knight, Bradley Moore (Sarah); and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank a special caregiver, Gwen Baker, for her kindness and loving care; and the medical staff at Flowers Hospital, Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation, and Kindred Hospice.
