Jimmy Wayne Powell, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, Born on February 6, 1944, in Dothan, Alabama, he was 80 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Seale officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Claude Powell and Ruby McCoy. His beloved wife of over 50 years, Betty Sue Powell. Two sisters, Edna Woodham and Janice Owens, and a brother, Benny Powell. Step-children, Bruce Woodham and Joyce George. His memory will be forever honored and cherished by his surviving family members, including his son, Chris Powell (Leah), a step-daughter, Susie Zimmerman (Gary), step-sons, Danny Woodham (Margie), Royce Woodham, Bobby Stoops (Pam) and Richard Woodham (Angie) as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who all held a special place in his heart.
Jimmy and his late wife were members of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. Jimmy proudly served his country for four years in the Army, in his later years he retired from Winn Dixie as a produce manager. As an avid fan of Alabama football, Jimmy could often be found cheering on his team surrounded by friends and family. Fishing was another of his passions, providing him with countless hours of tranquility and joy. Jimmy's love for travel was a family affair, as he treasured the opportunity to explore new places with his loved ones, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Those who knew Jimmy would describe him as kind and generous. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. His warm presence and the genuine care he showed to others left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
