Lillian Arlene Sasser (Arlene), age 86, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at her residence after an extended illness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Hwy. 52 in Dothan, Alabama. Arlene’s eulogy will be given by Pat Williams, a long-time family friend. Reverend Scott Cox will be giving closing remarks and Prayer. A private graveside service will be held for the family members prior to the visitation/memorial services with Reverend Tommy Green of Bay Springs Baptist Church officiating.
Arlene was born in Brundidge, Alabama to the late Ella Barefoot Hargrove and Freeman Earton Hargrove. After graduating from high school Arlene attended Troy University where she met the love of her life, Jack Sasser and they were married in 1958. Arlene and Jack were married for 63 years before his death in 2021.
Arlene worked at the Sure Gas company in Marianna Florida as the secretary after the couple moved there in 1960. In 1972 they moved to Dothan Alabama where Arlene became the secretary/bookkeeper at Grandview Elementary School until her retirement. Arlene loved to travel with her friends and family members and was often teased about her love of shopping; however, she will always be remembered as being a loving wife, mother and friend. She will be missed greatly.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ray Hulan Hargrove, sister, Cupie Dean Lesovich, brother-in-law, Andy Lesovich, brother, George M L Hargrove, sister, Sara Hargrove, son-in-law, Michael H. Atwell and numerous Aunts and Uncles.
Survivors include her daughters, Angie Atwell (Martin) of Dothan, Shari Rawls (Michael) of South Carolina, three grandchildren, Hudson Atwell (Shelby) of Dothan, Gavin Rawls (Katie) of Tennessee and Raegan Rawls. Sister-in-laws, Sandra Sasser Mathews (Max) of Andalusia, and Helen Hargrove of Dothan as well as many nieces and nephews along with their children.
