MSGT. Jonah “Ray” Kornegay, USAF (Retired) a dedicated Air Force Veteran, loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2025.
Born January 10th, 1951 in Dothan, Alabama, Ray enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 20 where he served for 20 years as both a vehicle operator and parachute fabrication supervisor.
During his time of service, including The Vietnam War, he earned many commendations and awards, including: The Air Force Overseas Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with Device, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate with Device, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the National Defense Service Medal.
After retiring as an E-7Master Sergeant, he moved to Abbeville, Alabama to live the lake life with the love of his life, Jan. Ray was an avid sportsman, Crimson Tide fan, proud grandfather, and dedicated family man.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years; Jan Kornegay, Parents; James Amos Kornegay and Pearlie Lee McCollough Kornegay, brother; John “Dudley” Kornegay, and sister; Martha Helon Kornegay Woodham (Tom).
Survivors include his daughter Kim Miller (Danny), his grandson; Blake Miller (Abbey), great-grandson; Luke Miller, sister; Linda Rena Kornegay Harrison (Jimmy), sister-in-law; Susan Kornegay, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion and pride to his family, his country, and the values he held dear.
