Mary E. Johnson, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, at the age of 89 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on October 23, 1935, in Alabama.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, February 7. 2025 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Dean officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 P.M. Friday, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
Mary's journey began as the cherished daughter of Ervin and Ruby N. Hawthorne.
In her lifetime, Mary found joy in the simple things. She had a passion for working in her flowers, where she found peace and solace. Her hands were often busy with making ceramics, a hobby that allowed her to express her creativity and bring beauty into the world. Mary's love for travel took her on many adventures, and she cherished each new experience and the memories made along the way.
Mary was a dedicated member of the Taylor Senior Citizen Center, where she formed lasting friendships and remained active in her community.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ervin and Ruby N. Hawthorne, her devoted husband, William Johnson, her siblings Bobby Hawthorne, Rebecca Strickland, Shannon Hawthorne, and her beloved grandson, Andrew Johnson. Their memories remained a source of comfort and strength throughout her life.
The legacy of Mary's loving spirit lives on through her daughter, Ann Tew (Bobby), and son, Edward Johnson (Susan). Her grandchildren, Monty Bond (Jennifer), Shelby Johnson, Dillion Johnson, Dustin Money, Haley Money (Justin), and Ben Bond, will carry forward the lessons of compassion and kindness she instilled in them. Mary also leaves behind her special companion, "Twinkle," who provided her with joy and companionship in her later years.
As we bid farewell to Mary E. Johnson, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that enriched the world simply by being a part of it. Her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and to Stephanie Clark, Bill Clark and Bill Bliss for their support during this time.
