Mary Davis Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Davis, passed away on July 16, 2026, in Slocomb, leaving behind a legacy of gentleness, devotion, and quiet strength.

Born on August 21, 1940, in Holmes County, Florida, Mary was the daughter of the late Dewey Patterson and Jane “Irene” Smith Patterson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Baxley, and her brother, Ray Patterson.

Mary graduated from Poplar Springs High School and went on to build a life marked by responsibility and care for others. For many years, she worked as a bookkeeper in the family construction company, Davis and Brown Construction, where her careful nature and attention to detail were deeply valued. She was known as a perfectionist in the best sense of the word, always striving to do things well and with pride.

Mary shared 65 devoted years of marriage with her husband, Joe C. Davis. Together, they built a life centered on family, companionship, and simple joys. One of their favorite pastimes was fishing together, a reflection of the peaceful and steady bond they shared over the years. Their marriage stood as a lasting example of commitment and love.

She was a loving mother to her son, Gary Davis and his wife Lauretta, and her daughter, Carla Floyd. Mary took great joy in her grandchildren, Patrick Andress and his wife Haillie, Tyler Davis, and Joseph Davis, and she was blessed to know and love her great-grandchildren, Adam, Aiden, Halle, Hank, and Hollis. Her family was the center of her world, and she gave them her heart in countless ways through her care, her cooking, and her constant presence.

Mary was especially well known for her wonderful desserts and her sweet tea, both of which became cherished favorites among friends and family. Her Red Velvet Cake, Blueberry Delight, Tunnel of Fudge, and Glorified Brownies were made with love and remembered with delight by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them. She loved cooking for those around her, and her kitchen was often a place of comfort, warmth, and togetherness. Her meals and desserts were more than food. They were expressions of her love and generosity.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, July 19, 2026 from Memory Hill Cemetery with Reverend Randy Boardman officiating.
