Michael Fredrick Furniss

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our brother, Michael Fredrick Furniss, affectionately known as “Big Mike,” on January 7, 2026.

Born in North Miami, Florida on September 9, 1952, to Fredrick Thomas and Geraldine Hart Furniss.

Mike’s generous spirit and unwavering kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. After graduating from Douglas McArthur High School, he lived in Naples, Florida where he was befriended by Billy and Mickey Engle and was known to them and their children as Uncle Mike, before making his home in Abbeville in 1988.

Wherever he went, Mike brought joy, laughter, and comfort, leaving behind a legacy of smiles, hugs, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his siblings, Robert Furniss, Richard Furniss, and Barbara Solera; his nieces, Lisa Vandiver, Jerilyn Melendez, and Christina Solera; as well as his many friends and acquaintances.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakeside Christian Fellowship in Abbeville, Al. on Saturday, January 24th at 11 am.

A finger-food fellowship will follow.
