Pauline Gwaltney Obituary

Pauline Williford Gwaltney, a resident of Dothan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. She was 96 years old.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, there will be a private family graveside service  Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:00 am. The family asks that friends join them in prayer at this time from the safety of their own homes.

Pauline was born June 12, 1924 to Samuel and Jewell Williford. Pauline was a Godly woman who was known for her small stature but large heart and immense faith. She was best known for her devotion to her two children, Laura and Clay, and her husband, James Gwaltney. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught the three year old Sunday School class for several years before becoming a devout Sunday School member herself. Pauline enjoyed teaching children about the love of Christ and the fellowship with other Sunday school members in her class in recent years.

Pauline was a dedicated wife to the love of her life, James, and her two children, Laura and Clay. She was loved and adored by her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, but also by anyone who had the privilege of meeting her, even if only for a brief moment.

She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Jewell Williford, her son James Mark Gwaltney, and her husband James Gwaltney.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Stevens (Eddy), son Clay Gwaltney, grandson Jason Wood (Kasey), granddaughter Lacey Moye (Hugh), granddaughter Kelli Thornton (Dustin), great-grandson James Patrick Wood, great-granddaughter Emily Wood, great-granddaughter Allison Wood, great-granddaughter Samantha Grace Moye, and great-grandson Holland Thornton.

Pallbearers for the service will be Jason Wood, James Patrick Wood, Dustin Thornton, and Travis Simmons. The graveside service will be officiated by Calvary Baptist Church’s Pastor of Seniors, Randy Hunt, and Church Elder, Dave Lindley. Ward Wilson Funeral Home will be directing the service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
