Richard Uno Carlson

Richard Uno Carlson of Gordon, AL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Flowers Hospital. He was 77.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Hart Carlson; his children Dianna (Stacy) Harper, Tammy (Jeff) Thurman, SMSgt (R) Richard (Mandi) Carlson Jr.; Grandchildren Kellan Bryan, Chase Thurman, Mallory Harper, A1C Hayden Harrison, Hunter Harper, Jacie Thurman, Sara Anne Harper, Ella Carlson, Lydia Carlson, and McKenna Carlson; Great-Grandchildren, Cooper Bryan and Carson Bryan. Several nieces, nephews and special friends. 

Richard is preceded in death by his parents August and Barbra Carlson and his brother Norman Carlson.

Richard was born on April 26, 1944 in Woburn, Massachusetts. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful christian who served his community and church family as a deacon for many years. His three greatest passions in life were his grandchildren, aviation and Alabama football. Richard also served in the United States Army as a flight instructor. His love for flying started at a very young age and carried him all over the world. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00pm on Friday, August 27th. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 28th. All will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan, AL.

The family will be accepting flowers and/or donations to the Building Fund at Selma Baptist Church, Dothan, AL.
