Sammy Bagwell

Mr. Sammy Bagwell of Cowarts passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Southeast Health. He was 67.

A Celebration of Life service for Sammy will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Cowarts Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Jonathan Sorensen officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Sammy was born October 4, 1957. Sammy worked for Roadway as a local driver for 25 years. After retirement, he then followed his desire to be self-employed and start up his own business, Bagwell Landscaping. Sammy was the “Michelangelo of dirt” as quoted by one of his customers. He loved to move dirt around and was known as a perfectionist.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Nettie Lou Bagwell, foster parents John Robert and Martha Steele, mother-in-law Betty Southerland and sister-in-law Libby Bagwell.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Pattie Southerland Bagwell, son Jason Bagwell, brothers Wallace Bagwell, Jackie Bagwell (Jaqueline), Gerald Bagwell (Laura), Ryan Bagwell (Debra), sisters Nina Armstrong (Squeaky), Debra Fields (Lamar), foster brother Keith Steele (Paula), father-in-law Harold Southerland, brother-in-law Duane Southerland (Lovan), sister-in-law Cathy Reddoch (Larry), several nieces, nephews and the Breakfast Broadway Crew.
