Willie Comer Shirley, Jr.

Willie Comer Shirley Jr., 75, passed away on July 19, 2019, at Southeast Health after a long battle with cancer.

Jr. was born in Headland, Alabama on December 26, 1943, and lived most of his life in Houston County, Alabama. He retired in 2006 from Georgia Pacific, where he was employed for over 30 years.

He is survived by two sons, Luke Shirley (Angel Williams Shirley) of Dothan and Shaun Lingo (Nikki Carpenter Lingo) of Headland; one daughter, Jessica Shirley of Williamsburg, Virginia; two sisters, Judy Clements and Lynn Cobb (James), both of Webb, Alabama; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Comer Shirley and Eunice Inez Owens Shirley, his wife, Bobbette Blessman Shirley, his brother and sister in law, Marvette Shirley and Sue Ivey Shirley, his sister, Patsy Todd, his brother in law and sister in law Robby Blessman and Ladania Adcox Blessman, and his daughter, Jennifer Shirley.

Jr. enjoyed fishing and gardening, with a special interest in growing heirloom hot peppers. 

A very special thank you to his grandsons, Jacob and Cameron Shirley, for their care and support through his lengthy illness and to his life long friend, whom he thought of as a brother, Leonard Pharr and his wife Sybil Corley Pharr.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
